Scouting America National Capital Area Council makes a difference in young people’s lives!

It has been proven through multiple studies that Scouting helps to develop young people who become leaders in our communities and compassionate citizens. By instilling the values of the Scout Oath and Law in our youth, we are inciting them to live by those values throughout their lifetime.

The NCAC offers various programs designed to encourage team building, character development, and camaraderie amongst peers. By participating in catered activities such as STEM-focused Nova Awards, outdoor adventure programs like hiking and camping trips, and community service projects, youth have ample opportunities to interact with others and form lasting bonds.

At the same time our programs instill values such as respect for others and empathy. The safe and supportive environment provided by Scouting enables young people to grow confidently and be prepared for situations throughout their lives.

In the new Scouting Edge study, Scouting America sought to demonstrate the impact Scouting Alumni have on our communities. Through the study, it was found that alumni and Scouts express, in higher proportions than their counterparts, that voting in every election, volunteering time in the community, participating in youth-related organizations, and taking an active part in charitable organizations are important traits in being a good citizen.

In short, Scouts don’t just give back to earn a rank; they give back to their communities throughout the rest of their lives.
